THANK YOU, New Jersey! (from YDKJ)

We’re reposting this verbatim from NJ.com and we couldn’t be prouder of our NJ residents!

Fewer than 100 people show at open casting call for MTV’s ‘Jersey Shore’

One of the 100.

ATLANTIC CITY — It might be a ratings juggernaut and a cultural phenomenon, but the beach blanket bacchanal known as “Jersey Shore” came up surprisingly short in Atlantic City today.

Fewer than 100 people showed at an open casting call for the MTV reality show at Harrah’s Resort Atlantic City, where recruiters spent more than nine lonesome hours waiting for hopefuls in a ballroom.

Waterloo Village Partially Open Again

NJ.com reports that enough money has been raised to partially open Waterloo Village while more money is being raised to open the entire facility piece by piece as money comes in.

Map of Waterlook Village

It was closed in 1996 when the non-profit that ran it for 30 years filed for bankruptcy.  Since then, the state has set aside money to rehabilitate certain buildings each year with the hopes of finding another organization to operate the entire Village.  No organization has been found so areas have been divided up and are being run by different contractors and the State.

Moorestown Quakers Lacrosse Team Ends Decade-Long Winning Streak

Moorestown Women's Lacrosse Team - 2010

The second to last game that was lost in NJ by the Quakers in women’s lacrosse came at the State Finals in 1999 to Summit.  But, it’s the more recent one that hurts more.

That loss came on May 24th after winning 228 consecutive games against teams all over New Jersey.

They met the Shawnee Renegades at the State Finals for what has become an annual showdown between the two NJ powerhouses.  Unfortunately, for Moorestown, this one didn’t end like the last 15 State Final games.  It ended with their team at the short end of the stick in a loss of 7 goals to 6.

Teens May Find Jersey Shore Jobs Harder to Find This Summer

KYW Newsradio out of Philly reported that employers at the shore are finding more and more out-of-work professionals applying for summer jobs.

What will that mean for area teens who usually count on those jobs to pay for college in the fall and keeps them from needing to work during the school year?

New Jersey to Host 2014 Sub Zero Bowl

New Meadowlands Stadium with Old Stadium in the Background

Err I mean Super Bowl.   Now I am all for New Jersey getting this honor and all the business it will generate but does the NFL realize it is really cold freezing here in February?  We also tend to get this odd phenomenon know as snow around this time of year.  Oh yeah, and the game always takes place after the sun goes down.  Maybe Frost King and Igloo coolers should seize this sponsorship opportunity.  A free snow shovel with every ticket?

NJ Transit Ready for Bon Jovi?

Bon Jovi at the Meadowlands

The Meadowlands is supposed to have been upgrading their mass transit options because of construction but have they learned their lessons yet?

They had people walking up the Turnpike exit ramp to get to their cars last month and they had people stranded for hours after a U2 concert last September.

Tonight Bon Jovi is opening the new Giants Stadium.

They say they’re ready with extra trains and faster ticket machines. Will that be enough?

Here’s some advice, avoid Route 3 and the Lincoln Tunnel like the plague tonight.  I have a sneaking suspicion that with all their budget cuts and decreased train service, NJ Transit is nowhere near ready for Bon Jovi fans ready to rock a new stadium AND the evening rush hours.

Tour de Montclair 2010

The 8th annual Tour de Montclair was held on May 16th, 2010 with 1200 riders in attendance. Riders had a choice of three routes. A car-free loop of 1.2 miles around Brookdale Park, an on-road route through the town of about 8 miles, and a longer, 12-mile route around Montclair. Here is a time-lapse video of the complete 12-mile route:

Budget-Affected Train Schedules Take Place for NJ Transit Today

I took the train to Summit this morning and I’d estimate it had about 20 percent more people than previous Mondays. By the time we arrived in Newark, there were people standing.

NJ Transit Train in Station

Other things I noticed besides the missing trains in the afternoon were less conductors and fewer cars per train.

The only good thing is that we have the summer coming up which is typically a lighter-traveled season since we always have a good percentage of people at the Shore.

For more information on the cuts, read:
