A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010)
We are seeing a lot of 80’s remakes and this is another one. The story is the same with the villain, Freddy being able to enter your dreams but kill you for real. The tone is set, the cinematography is well done, and the acting is fine. Jackie Earl Haley gives a decent performance in the role of Freddy, and is even given an opportunity to show more range in some flashback scenes of the character.
But they forgot one thing, a horror movie is supposed to be scary…or suspenseful…preferrably both. But this movie is neither. Someone should have told the director that he was making a R-Rated horror film, not an after-school special.
This sums up the whole movie. The remake includes the classic bathtub scene, they even put it in the commercial to let the fans of the original know. In the movie, the scene starts, and then the exciting part and the climax are both removed. It was like watching a movie edited for television…but worse than that. I don’t even know how this movie is Rated R. It’s just sad to see decent acting, Cinematography and production value go to waste like this.
This movie made so much money in its opening weekend, they are already working on a sequel, which I, for one, am looking forward to. Why, you ask? Because there were enough elements that were done right, that if the producers/writer/director actually get some guts, they could easily make a good movie.
Dont go see it.
