Movie Review – Kick-Ass

Ever wonder what would happen if you put on a costume and went out to fight crime? That’s what the main character of Kick-Ass does. Having no powers or fighting skills of any kind, the real world results of this are disastrous, often hilarious and sometimes tragic. Kick-Ass becomes an internet sensation, discovers that he isn’t the only one with this idea, and from there things really take off.
This well written movie fully explores the interesting directions that this situation could go. While the movie is very funny, it is not a parody or mockery of superhero movies. The scenes of bravery and tragedy always ring true. Drama is not sacrificed for comedy as the humor comes from the situations, not from making fun of the situations or being campy or tongue in cheek. This movie is outragious and over the top in the best way possible.
This movie was a pleasant suprise and the best movie I’ve seen in awhile. It is a breath of fresh air and originality in an over-saturated genre .This movie is Rated R, and like Wanted and Watchmen, it demonstrates how much more thought-provoking and realistic the story can be without the limitations of a PG or PG-13 rating. This movie is entertaining from beginning to end, with great performances all around. And Nicholas Cage must be happy. He’s finally in a good comic book movie.
Go See It!
