2011 is half over. The year started off weak, but has recently picked up a lot of steam. Fortunately, four out of the five are still in theaters so you can see them right now. Here are my choices for the best movies of the first half of 2011:

Tolls Going Up At Delaware Memorial Bridge

Leaving New Jersey from the south will get more expensive on Friday.  But, why would you want to leave??  New Jersey has everything!  Right?

Beginning Friday, July 1, tolls for passenger cars crossing the Delaware Memorial Bridge will increase to $4. EZPass customers enrolled in the Commuter and Frequent Traveler programs will also see an increase of 25 cents to $1.25 for each crossing.

Rates have not changed since 2000 and the discounted rates haven’t changed since 1987.

Amazing Supermarket in Paramus – Fairway Market

You’ve got to go check out this supermarket!  Their motto on the front of the store is “Like No Other Market.”  That’s definitely true.

This is the only Fairway in New Jersey and we finally made it over to Paramus to check it out.

It seems like it’s got about three times as many specialty and import items of any grocery store we’ve ever been to.  The prices aren’t too terrible, either.  We found several items that we usually get at the local Shoprite that were actually cheaper at Fairway.

Some New Jersey Shore Towns Want to Keep You Off Their Beach

Fear This!!

Associated Press reporter Wayne Parry has come out with a very interesting article that says some of the more affluent New Jersey beach towns are writing new rules that will severely cut down on the access to their beaches.  They fear they will be inundated by people not of their standing it seems.  It almost sounds like a war between the haves and the have-nots.  I can’t help but imagine Ted Knight in Caddyshack against Rodney Dangerfield.  A woman in Mantoloking actually is quoted in the article uttering “when you sleep with dogs, you pick up fleas.”  Well, they also say “money doesn’t buy class!”

What’s Fresh This Week at the Farmers’ Markets?

Each week, we get half of a share of organic veggies from a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) group based in Westfield.  And, each week, we’re going to show you what we got.  It’s our way of showing you what New Jersey farmers are up to and what you should be able to find at your local farmers’ market this week.

This week our CSA share included Red Boston lettuce, escarole, salad turnips, kohlrabi, summer squash, sugar snap peas and cilantro. Yum!  Last week’s salads were amazing with the local organic lettuce and radishes.  The salad turnips are even better than the radishes!
