Kyrie Irving, who grew up in West Orange, is likely to be the number one pick in Thursday’s NBA draft. ESPN is reporting that the Cleveland Cavaliers plan to take the point guard first overall on draft day. He had a great season at Duke last year despite a turf toe injury that sidelined him for 26 games. He is entering the NBA after just one half season but there is no question that he is very talented.
Kyrie started his high school basketball career at Montclair Kimberley Academy. He played there as a freshman and sophomore before transferring to St. Patrick High School in Elizabeth, a high school well known for their impressive basketball program.
Is Kyrie a risk at number one? Sure. He hasn’t played that long at the college level and there is that turf toe. However, his talent is undeniable and we look forward to watching him in the NBA.
