Album Review – The Front Bottoms (Self-Titled)

“Flashlight,” the opening song on New Jersey’s Front Bottoms impressive self-titled debut album, starts like many an opening track on countless albums past.  An acoustic guitar is strummed for a few seconds before he music kicks in.  Once it does here, we are off on one of the most unique albums I have heard in a while.  The opening lyric let’s you know what you’re in for; “Please fall asleep so I could take pictures of you and hang them in my room/ so when I wake up feel like yeah everything is all right.”   Lead singer and guitarist Brian Sella sings these words with the kind of desperation that you have at the age where things are starting to get serious.

New Jersey’s Adam Poch – The Last Man Standing on Big Brother 13

It is common to see Adam wearing T-Shirts highlighting 2 things that we love : Hoboken and Bacon. Who’s Got the Best Flood Coverage?

I’m sure there are a lot of people just like us who are searching around for information on different towns in NJ and how they’re faring in the river flooding.  I thought I’d share my list of favorite links to sites that I think are doing a great job with coverage.  I also included some fun articles to break up the monotony and bad news.  Enjoy!

What’s Fresh This Week at the Farmers’ Markets?

We bought a share of organic veggies and fruit from a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) group based in Westfield.  Each week, we’re going to show you what we got.  It’s our way of showing you what New Jersey farmers are up to and what you should be able to find at your local farmers’ market this week.

Last week we got so much food that we couldn’t fit it all into a picture.  This week we got the same amount and maybe even a little more.  We’re really having a bounty right now.  I fit it all in a picture but you can see it took up the entire end of the dining room table.  As you can see, this week we got green leaf lettuce, carrots, celery, cucumbers, summer squash, wax and green beans, onions, white potatoes, big and cherry tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, a watermelon, basil, peaches and Tydeman apples.

It’s not really a recipe but here’s what we’ve been going with the summer squash this week:

Movie Review – Fright Night (2011)

Night is a remake of the 1985 movie of the same name, but unlike other recent remakes, this film is actually good. Anton Yelchin plays Charley Brewster, a high school student that suspects that his neighbor Jerry, played by Colin Farrell is secretly a vampire. Actually it’s his friend Ed that thinks Jerry is a vampire but it eventually sinks in to Charley as well. It is hard to watch this movie without comparing it to the original.
