Is There a Hot Dog Heaven? It Might Be in Elizabeth

We’ve been going to hot dog places all over New Jersey both for the August Hot Dog Tours and also just because we love hot dogs. I’d read quite a few times about Elizabeth and its Second Avenue, home to two of the best places around.  One specializes in Italian hot dogs and one in Texas wiener-style dogs.  Both were worth the trip to Elizabeth.

New Jersey Among States Who Express Interest in Opting Out of No Child Left Behind

It was a flawed system to begin with but President Bush went with it anyway. Houston schools were the first to try it and were the model for the national plan and Houston schools were and still are failing miserably at teaching kids.  Whatever the reasons Bush put the plan into effect, President Obama is planning on allowing states to opt out of the plan now.

Movie Review – Drive

The movie Drive stars Ryan Gosling as a stunt car driver and sometimes getaway car for hire. He is pretty much a loner who keeps to himself, but as fate would have it, his life gets tangled up with a variety of mostly shady characters. Based on the trailer and commercials. you may think that this is just another action film. If you think that, you would be wrong.

Seton Hall University Offers Huge Tuition Discounts to Smart Kids

The New York Times ran a story this week about a great new program at Seton Hall.  They announced that SHU would be giving a $21,000 discount to any student who graduated in the top 10 percent of their class and had a combined math and reading SAT score of 1,200 (or an ACT score of 27 or above).

Newark Denied a Bid to Host Triple-A Yankees in 2012

Newark Bears and Eagles Riverfront Stadium was turned down in a bid to move the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees into Newark for the 2012 season. Scranton’s stadium needs renovation so they’ve been looking for somewhere to have the team play for the whole season next year and Newark looked like the perfect place.

Happy Birthday, New Jersey Native Mira Sorvino!

Sorvino was born in Tenafly and is the daughter of Lorraine Davis, a drama therapist for Alzheimer’s disease patients and former actress, and Paul Sorvino, an Italian American character actor and director. She has two siblings, Michael and Amanda; the latter is a playwright.

Governor Christie Vetoes $420,000 Tax Credit for ‘Jersey Shore’

 Governor Chris Christie has vetoed the $420,000 tax credit for MTV’s Jersey Shore citing a combination of the state’s budget problems and the misconceptions of the state that it promotes.
