A Sweathog has passed.  Robert Hegyes has died from an apparent heart attack at his Metuchen home Thursday Morning. He was 60 years old.  A New Jersey native, Robert was born in Perth Amboy and attended Glassboro State College (now Rowan University).

Best known for playing the Jewish Puerto Rican “Epstein” on ‘Welcome Back Kotter’, he also co-starred on ‘Cagney and Lacey’ and taught occasional classes at his alma mater Rowan University. He was reunited with almost all of the original cast members last year at the TV Land awards to recognize ‘Welcome Back Kotter’s’ 35th Anniversary.
