For a place that says they have a simple menu of hot dogs, burgers and fries, Garage in Millburn has an choice of lunch and dinner items that were excellent. If you’re a New Jersey hot dog fan, you’ll also recognize some of the names of the dogs on the menu. The Syd’s dog above is a deep fried dog. Every hot dog came on a toasted bun. The Syd’s was mild in flavor and didn’t compete with the nice meaty chili. This was real chili, people. Peppers, beans and lots and lots of beef were evident here.
The Don’s dog was a larger hot dog that was grilled. We tried this one with mustard and sauerkraut. It had a nice snap when you bit into it and the sauerkraut and mustard were good quality and not just an afterthought.
Our final dog was the School dog which was very large and looked like a red hot. It was delicious! We got it with just ketchup because we wanted to see what the big dog was all about. We’d come back just for this hot dog. You’ve gotta try it.
Now that we’ve covered the hot dogs, I’ll tell you about how cute this place is. It’s set up a little like an actual garage with a giant, wide-open doorway. They have indoor and outdoor seating as well as a party space on the second floor.
They also have hot dog art so, of course, this was the find of the year for the YDKJ Hot Dog tour.
Of course, we had to try some other things on the menu.
The fries were nice and crispy and exactly the kind we like. Not too thin and not a steak fry. Perfect.
The grilled cheese was really well grilled and came with bacon and tomato options which we said Yes to for both. Yum!
The salad was nothing special but, all the same, very refreshing and crunchy.
If you’re in the Millburn/Summit area and get a craving for good old burgers and hot dogs, we definitely recommend checking out Garage!
