The Fourth Annual YDKJ Hot Dog Tour – Texas Weiner I, Plainfield

We finally made it to Plainfield for this year’s hot dog tour.  Opinions vary on whether the Plainfield-style chili is tasty or not.  Well, our opinion is that the chili from Texas Weiner I on Watchung Avenue is good! It’s a very dry chili.  It’s almost so dry that it’s just spicy ground beef spooned on top of the dogs.  But, it made the dogs really easy to eat and made the onions and mustard really stand out unlike with most other chilis.

The hot dogs are griddled in the front of the small storefront restaurant and there’s a kitchen towards the back where the other food comes from when you order other things from the menu. There are a few stools in front of the counter and a few more along the wall.  If you’ve been to Boulevard Drinks in Jersey City, you’ll know the vibe of Texas Weiner I, too.

When you’re in the mood for something a little different on your dog and also want to taste a little bit of history, head on over to Plainfield and try those chili dogs at Texas Weiner 1.
