End Of Watch follows the lives of a couple of Police Officers played by Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Pena. The movie is filmed in the “Blair Witch” – documentary filmed by the characters – style. Brian (Jake Gyllenhaal) has them loaded up with multiple cameras on them and mounted in their car as he is filming everything a project he is working on.

We follow them on their calls and the story does a very good job of building their relationship, showing the progression of their personal lives and evolving their law enforcement careers building up to an intense climax.

Gyllenhaal and Pena do an amazing acting job, spanning a range of emotions and situations that their characters face over different aspects of their lives. Maybe the greatest accomplishment in the film is their friendship. It has a totally genuine feeling of a couple of friends that have known each other for a long time. This is truly something that you don’t see very often. I couldn’t help but notice how similar the tone and feel was to friendships I have had.

This is the best cop movie I have seen in a long time. Thanks to the filming style, acting and story, this movie has a raw and gritty feel to it. It has the rare quality of making you feel as you are living the movie along with them. This is a movie that you watch and experience.
