Many Lukoil gas stations in New Jersey and Pennsylvania posted prices up to $9.99 per gallon today to send a message to the company that they are paying too much for gas The protest took place because the Russian owned company charges the franchise owners up to 25 cents more per gallon than other companies like Exxon pay their suppliers. Of course the stations have to pass this extra cost to the consumers.
We decided to take a ride over to the Lukoil in Fair Lawn and sure enough the $9.99 was posted. Needless to say the only purchase we made was Dunkin’ Donuts coffee. We saw many people who drove in and drove right out. One gentleman got out of his van and pulled out his credit card. The attendant was explaining the situation as we drove off.
Will the protest have any effect? Not sure. However as gas approaches $4.00 a gallon in New Jersey anything done to save the consumer some cash can’t be a bad thing.
