New Brunswick, NJ —State Theatre presents An Evening with Mario Cantone on Friday, December 21, 2012 at 8pm. Acelebrated New York stage actor and stand-up comedian, Cantone will perform his new one-man show, featuring live music, comedy, musical impressions, and more! The only tri-state area appearance of this new one-man show, this is also Cantone’s State Theatre debut. Tickets range from $30-60.
Mario Cantone is best known for his stand-up comedy performance in the Tony® nominated, Laugh Whore, which played at the Cort Theatre on Broadway and was also a Showtime special. Cantone is also recognized for his role as Anthony, Charlotte’s wedding planner on the hit HBO®series, Sex and the City.
Previous to Laugh Whore, Cantone starred in the Tony®Award-winning Assassins by Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman, directed by four-time Tony®-winner Joe Mantello. He has also appeared on Broadway in the role of Buzz in Terrence McNally’s award-winning dramatic comedy, Love! Valor! Compassion! and Stephano in Shakespeare’s The Tempest at the Public Theater.
Cantone has performed his irreverent stand-up comedy at a wide range of venues, including Carnegie Hall, where he warmed up jazz great Shirley Bassey, to performances at Atlantic City Resorts, and Caroline’s on Broadway. Over the years his routines have included musical parodies of Judy Garland, Jim Morrison, Peggy Lee, Bruce Springsteen, and Liza Minnelli.
Cantone got his start hosting the local New York children’s show, Steampipe Alley, where the comic slipped in sly pop culture innuendo that adults could enjoy. His other television credits include The Chappelle Show, USO Comedy Tour, and appearances on Late Night with David Letterman,Oprah, Martha, The Today Show, and ABC’s The View.
Cantone’s film appearances include the Sex and the City movies, The Aristocrats, and the animated picture Surf’s Up.
