The Fifth Annual You Don’t Know Jersey Hot Dog Tour has begun!
Each year we try to check out some new hot dog places around the state and we also revisit the ones that have become our favorites.
This year’s first stop was Manny’s Texas Weiners in Union.
Behold, the Texas Weiner Combo #2. Two grilled skin-on dogs topped with anything you want (we chose “all the way” dogs) with fries and a fountain drink. The chili is Plainfield style chili that’s pretty dry and dark, almost like used coffee grounds. That description doesn’t sound too appealing but once you try it you’ll find it very appealing! The chili has a distinct chili flake heat and also has a cinnamon note when it first hits your tongue. The hot dog buns were warmed and maybe slightly toasted. The bun and dog were easier to taste without the toppings so we did get one plain dog.
You get to see how big these dogs are with the regular dog. It’s not quite a foot-long weiner but it’s close. Like we mentioned above, the weiners have a nice snap from the grilled skin and the bun was warm and a little toasty.
Manny’s Texas Weiners in Union is right on Springfield Avenue and across from a large shopping center so it’s hard to miss. It’s more like a diner than a typical hole-in-the-wall hot dog joint. It would be a great place to grab a bite to eat before getting all your shopping errands done across the street. Since they had such a nice expanded menu, we also tried a grilled cheese sandwich which was super toasty and had plenty of cheese.
Their onion rings were large, had lots of breading and had a nice thick slice of onion.
You can see everything on the menu here. Quite a selection for a place that calls itself Manny’s Texas Weiners, right?
