I Puritani in HD (Teatro Comunale di Bologna)
Tue, October 15, 2013 at 7pm

Following Bellini’s five years of extraordinary success with La Sonnambula, Norma, and Beatrice di Tenda, I Puritani is the richest example of his transition from lyrical classicism to the passion of romanticism. It was the last opera Bellini wrote before his premature death at the age of 34. The first performances in Paris in 1835 were so beautifully sung that they became legendary. For this production of I Puritani, the Teatro Comunale di Bologna has united two young stars of the opera world: Juan Diego Flórez and Nino Machaidze. Conducted by Michele Mariotti and directed by Pier’Alli. Sung in Italian with English subtitles.

The Bolshoi Ballet’s grandiose epic Spartacus recounts the story of a Roman slave’s fight for freedom. With its famous Khachaturian score, since the 1960s it has been considered one of the greatest ballets in the Bolshoi repertoire. The choreography by Yuri Grigorovich fills the Bolshoi stage with dynamic scenes of tension and conflict, and gives full expression to the virility and strength for which Russia’s male dancers are renowned. Featured dancers to be announced.
