For the New York Jets (5-6), it was over before it even started. They lost 19-3 to the Baltimore Ravens (5-6). Geno Smith seems to be regressing rather than getting better. Overall, Coach Rex Ryan feels that it’s not just Geno but something’s gotta give and he may have Matt Simms start as quarterback against the Dolphins next Sunday. The Jets are now basically hanging on by a thread competing against 5 or 6 teams for a playoff spot and they don’t hold any of the tie breakers against them. If the Jets have the same record as one of those teams at the end of the year, they will be on the outside looking in.
The New York Giants (4-7) took a page from the Jets and flapped their gums saying it would be a blood bath against Dallas. They pretty much guaranteed a victory. That’s classic bulletin board material for a team that was coming in pretty beat up on defense. The Cowboys (6-5)came in and knocked the Giants into next week winning 24-21. The Giants aren’t usually boisterous like the Jets are but all week long the Giants players trash talked and that just fired up Dallas. On top of that, Manning had a pick and still seems out of sync and not on the same page as his wide receiver. He’s having a terrible year for a 2 time MVP and nothing really seems to explain it.
The Philadelphia Eagles didn’t play this week but as a result of Dallas win the Eagles are now half a game behind Dallas because they lost the first season game against them. Dallas also has the better division record. The Eagles will most likely need a better record than the Cowboys if they want to win the division.
