When in Sussex County, one must always go to Jersey Dog in Newton. Let it be so proclaimed, this day of August, Two Thousand and Fourteen.
First of all, you can get three three different kinds of dogs. All three are famous in New Jersey for being good. You can get a dirty water Sabrett, a deep fried Thumann’s or a foot long Schickhaus.
That’s a pretty good start. Then there’s all the topping combinations, if you wish, to enhance those really great dogs. This place is a win, win for us all!
We tried four different topping combinations. First was the foot long Chicago dog with yellow mustard, cucumbers, relish, pepperocinis, tomatoes, onions and pickle spears. This was so much dog that it’s almost all we needed. It’s a serious dog. The toppings were all spot on for the typical Chicago dog, too.
The BLT dog is bacon-wrapped with lettuce, tomato and mayo. The bacon was present but didn’t overpower the taste of the hot dog and the veggies were crispy and fresh.
The Jersey dog is wrapped in Taylor Ham (!!!) and topped with crumbled hash browns, American cheese, salt, pepper and catsup. Ed was in love with this dog. He didn’t even want to give me a bite of it but he finally relented. This is a dog to make the trip to Newton for!
This was my favorite and it wasn’t even a traditional dog. It was some of the spiciest falafel I’ve ever eaten shaped into a hot dog shape and topped with lettuce, tomato and tzatziki sauce in a pita. I can still taste this amazing sandwich.
Check out their menu and see all the amazing combinations they have or just get one of each dog All the Way. Whatever you feel like when you go, we guarantee it will be delicious!
