There’s a new minor league baseball team in New Jersey! Baseball finally returns to the area thanks to the Sussex County Miners. They have their home opener against the New Jersey Jackals on Monday May 25th.
We will be there cheering them on. Will you? Tickets available here.
They’ll be playing the New Jersey Jackals and will honor America’s men and women of the armed forces with a Military Appreciation Day by dedicating its inaugural game to those who have fought and lost their lives to protect American freedoms.
Picatinny Arsenal Brigadier General Patrick W. Burden and area veterans will be the team’s honored guests at the game. The first pitches will be thrown out by veterans of World War II, Korea, Vietnam and the Gulf War. Historic military trucks will be positioned in the stadium parking lot for fans and visitors to see.
Starting at 5:30 pm, the B-Street Band, a Bruce Springsteen tribute band, will start playing in front of the stadium’s main entrance and will continue to play until the on-field ceremonies begin. A spectacular fireworks display will follow the game.
Skylands Stadium concessions stands will be have pulled pork sandwiches, hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken fingers, French fries, onion rings, hot pretzels, popcorn and more. Beer, soda and fresh brewed ice tea will also be available. Of course, we’ll be reviewing all the concessions and the stadium in an article following the game.
The Sussex County Miners are members of the Can-Am Association of Professional Baseball. They will play 55 home games, from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Teams in the Can-Am league include the New Jersey Jackals, Quebec Capitales, Rockland Boulders, Ottawa Champions, Garden State Grays, Trois-Rivieres Aigles and now the Sussex County Miners,
This year, an all-star team from Japan will play a series with every team in the Can-Am League. The Shikoku Island All-Stars play the Jackals twice and the Miners three times in June. Should be some exciting games!
