If you know Alice and I you know we are a bit crazy. OK, maybe not crazy but definitely devoted to what we do. When we heard of this event we knew we would have to go. Therefore we left our holiday weekend getaway in Snow Shoe, PA a tad early to race to Asbury Park and we were glad we did. Sundown at the Carousel was a wonderful way to end the holiday weekend. Great music from inside such a historical building.
Presented by our friends Cool Dad Music, Little Dickman Records and Arcade Radio, the Asbury Park carousel was the unique venue for a showcase of New Jersey bands to usher out the Independence Day weekend. Justin and Emily Bornemann of Dentist, Overlake, and The Everymen rocked the old structure with absolutely thunderous music. The sound was loud, but clear, and sounded amazing. I’m sure if there were any ghosts trying to sleep in the old building they were quickly awoken and danced along.
As the sun began to set and the event wore down Alice and I agreed that we really enjoyed this evening, as did the people in attendance. Many wandered in after a long day at the beach and stopped to enjoy some wonderful music. We saw people of all ages with smiles on their faces and cameras in hand taking pictures of the bands and the structure itself. After such a long day Alice and I probably looked like the faces of the giant Haculla mural adorning much of the carousel.
Were we tired? Oh yeah. Was it worth it to make that four and a half hour drive? You bet it was.
