The Greater Newark Mini Maker Faire is a celebration of creativity and ingenuity in the New Jersey community. The faire invites makers—from woodworkers and beekeepers, from robotics engineers and 3D-printing artists, to present their projects that take DIY thinking to a new level. Whether they’re presenting a clever new robotic arm, algorithms that draw or the science behind conductive ink, the Makers at this event will captivate and inspire — all alongside the Museum’s art and science collections acting as the ultimate ‘maker’ examples.
The event is more about show than tell in a fun faire environment. Join demonstrations, participate in hands-on workshops and be inspired by speakers pushing the limits of the art, science and technology. Bring the entire family to New Jersey’s first Maker Faire and find the MacGyver or Martha Stewart in you!

ADD YOUR VOICE AND ADVOCACY to the Creation Nation Art and Peace Parade and rally to “SAVE THE ARTS” on May 11 at 2pm in downtown Newark, ending with a performing arts festival in Military Park. The march will be propelled by six marching bands and the Animodule™ sculptures, Newark’s Official Peace Ambassadors, representing the work of thousands of Newark children and youth. Dedicated as the “Creation Nation Art and Peace Parade: Newark 50 Years Forward 1967 – 2017, the march celebrates the revitalization of Newark and the current blossoming of art and culture in the city. And now, due to recent threats to the National Endowment of the Arts and Humanities as well as to public broadcasting, the parade is incorporating a call out to all of our sectors–public and private – TO SAVE THE ARTS!!! The parade will be filmed along with interviews of Newark leaders, artists, children and senior citizens, sharing Newark’s story of resurgence and renewal – from urban uprising to an international center of higher education, art and culture.
The march will culminate with a performing arts festival featuring US cultural ambassador, Eli Yamin, performing his “Healing Song” joined by over 100 Newark children, and Newark’s own Antoinette Montague, bringing songs from her album World Peace in the Key of Jazz. The Newark School of the Arts and the Newark All Stars bring their powerful arts programs to the festival, joining the voices of the African American churches of Newark, to celebrate the power of the ARTS to transform lives and communities.
