Jersey City band Cicada Radio have been creating energetic alt/indie/punk for over 10 years now, quite an accomplishment for any group. That they have traversed the New Jersey music scene, and beyond, while still sounding fresh and current is even more of an achievement. Now making a foray into shoegaze we couldn’t be more thrilled to premiere their latest video “Erased On Re-Entry” today.
The band, vocalist/guitarist Pat Keefe, vocalist/guitarist Michael Keefe, Brandon Barron on bass and Josh Bartsch on drums have created a dreamy, lush and loud tune that meshes perfectly with the kinetic feel of the video. Echos of the emotive vocals of The Cure and the guitar of My Bloody Valentine against the background of the motion of rapid transit create a poignant, moving document. The video was made by former band member Mike Kundrath using footage from a trip to Japan he and his wife went on last year.
“The song is about the contrast between the true self vs. reality/real world. How people shed their dreams (or themselves) as they grow up in an attempt to fit into society,” vocalist/guitarist Pat Keefe explains. “It’s about how it feels like there’s no room in the world for dreamers.”
The song is the latest single off their fifth and most recent EP Catch and Release from Killing Horse Records. You can catch the band live February 15th at FM Bar in Jersey City with Well Wisher, Typesetter and Delicate Flowers.
