Public Policy Poll Finds 1 In 3 Americans Hold ‘Unfavorable’ View Of New Jersey – Do We Care?

We think even our swamp is beautiful. NJ Meadowlands Environment Center

Are we done crying over some backwards people in California who are convinced that they live in paradise despite their dead economy and horrible smog? Public Policy Polling thinks this is still a news story by publishing yet another study about what states are “disliked.”

You know what?  If 2 out of every 3 people said they LIKED me, I’d be pretty happy with that.  That’s what these poll results say and yet 1010wins.com turned it into a Poor New Jersey article.

Whatever.

Governor Christie Orders Flags to Fly at Half Staff for Whitney Houston

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has ordered flags to fly at half staff this Saturday in honor of the late pop icon and NJ native, Whitney Houston. Her private funeral will take place in Newark this Saturday while being streamed live on the internet (noon EST on Saturday, on nbcnewyork.com).

The governor says Houston was a “cultural icon” who belongs in the same category in New Jersey music history as Frank Sinatra, Count Basie and Bruce Springsteen. However some NJ residents do not agree and sent emails and placed calls to the governor’s office criticizing him for his decision. Many people feel that the executive order of lowering the flag should be reserved for military personnel, first responders and elected officials. Others feel her drug use deems her not worthy of such an honor. Christie defended his decision by saying that Houston deserves the honor, not because she was a role model, but because of her huge cultural impact and as “a daughter of New Jersey.”

Springsteen Plans to Tour with Two Sax Players to Replace Clemons

There’s an old joke with many punchlines:  How many {blank} does it take to {blank}?  Bruce fans all over the Garden State have been asking lately: how many sax players does it take to replace our beloved Clarence Clemons? Well, of course it’s impossible to actually replace the Big Man.  But, Bruce Springsteen’s answer is in his expanded lineup announced today.

It takes two.

And, one of the replacements is a Clemons.

New Jersey Released from No Child Left Behind Act Today

President Obama will sign the waivers today for ten states including our very own Garden State so that we won’t be tied to the No Child Left Behind Act which has by all accounts failed miserably.

The other states who applied and were granted the waivers were Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Oklahoma and Tennessee. New Mexico applied but hasn’t been approved yet.  26 other states, reportedly, have also stated their intentions to apply for the requirements to be waived but haven’t officially done so yet.

So, more than half of all the states want out of this stifling program.  Need any more evidence that this didn’t work?
