Wanting to change our burger routine up a little, this time we went with a patty melt.  Buttery grilled rye bread with hot patty and lots of melty cheese and grilled onions.  Yes, we’re ready to back again for more!

We also tried some hot dogs which turned out to be monster footlong dogs.

One with chili (lots of beans, yum!) and one with sauerkraut.  Neither disappointed.

We tried several sides with our sandwiches.  The fries were crinkled and perfectly crispy. The onion rings were also well-fried and crunchy.  I like the kind of batter that comes off in sheets because it feels more homemade, I think.  That’s exactly what we got here.  I also had baked beans which were good but nothing special.

Feeling like we needed to have a sundae because we were at a drive in and it just felt right, we ordered a hot fudge sundae with the works and got a masterpiece. Don’t forget dessert when you go over to the Circus Drive In!

The bitter rivalry that we had all hoped for begins tonight at the Garden as the New Jersey Devils take on the New York Rangers at 8 pm.

One round away from their 5th trip to the Finals, the 6th seeded Devils must go through the 1st seed Rangers to get there. In addition to the rankings, historically the Devils haven’t fared very well when facing the Rangers in the playoffs.

18 years ago in 1994, the Rangers broke a 40 year drought and won their first Stanley Cup since 1954. On their way to doing so, they won a classic 7 game playoff series against the Devils. On that Devils team was a 22 year old Rookie named Marty Brodeur.

Now 40, Martin Brodeur has won 3 Stanley Cup Finals, four Vezina trophies and five Jennings trophies. He has broken loads of records in his historical career including the regular season games won total and is a ten time NHL All-Star.

Through all that, the 1994 loss to the Rangers is still stuck in his craw. He wants to beat the Rangers to exorcise his personal demons and  play for a chance at a 4th Stanley Cup. With rumors of a lockout on the horizon this may be his last chance and everyone wants to go out on top.

Predictions:

The Devils have a more balanced offense than the Rangers. They don’t have to rely as much on their neutral zone trap as they have been blessed with more firepower  in the form of Zach Parisi, Travis Zajac and Ilya Kovalchuk.

The Rangers are stronger defensively and have the edge of a younger goaltender.

In coaching, the Rangers have the advantage with John Tortorella, a coach who has lead his team to a Stanley Cup championship – the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2004. No one really expected the Devils to get this far with their first year coach Pete DeBoer.

The Devils have strength with their special teams.

The Devils need to stay disciplined and out of the box.

Verdict:

Devils win in 6 or 7. This is going to be a tough and grueling series and anything less than 6 games would be surprising. There will be no sweep or short series. This will be one for the ages.

In the Western Conference Finals I predict the LA Kings to win in 5 or 6 to result in a New Jersey Devils – LA Kings Stanley Cup Finals.

The Rangers take on the Capitals at Madison Square Garden tonight at 7:30 pm. If the New York Rangers win, we will get to see one of the great rivalries in local sports.

The New Jersey Devils await the victor of tonight’s all or nothing game 7. And if that victor is the Rangers, then watch out for one of the most contested sports rivalries.

Devils and Rangers fans have a hatred for the other team and its fans that is rare. Only the Yankees and Red Sox rivalry is more extreme.

I remember a series a number of years back between the Devils and Rangers. A couple of people I knew made a bet on the outcome of the series. But it wasn’t a monetary bet. The loser had to come in to work wearing the other teams gear, cap etc. This was the most humiliating and insulting punishment that they could think of for each other.

So if the Rangers win tonight, expect some real fireworks on the Eastern Conference Finals coming up on Monday!

Biggs was born in Pompton Plains, the son of Angela, a nurse, and Gary Biggs, a shipping company manager. He grew up in nearby Hasbrouck Heights and attended Hasbrouck Heights High School. Biggs had success in athletics while in high school, both in tennis and in wrestling.

Biggs is Italian American and Roman Catholic; he has mentioned in interviews that he is sometimes cast as an explicitly or implicitly Jewish character, as he was in American Pie (other examples include his roles in Saving Silverman and Anything Else), though he is not Jewish himself.

Biggs began acting at the age of five. In 1992, he made his television debut in the short lived Fox network series Drexell’s Class. He also made a one-off HBO special, The Fotis Sevastakis Story, but due to licencing arguments, it was never aired. That same year, Biggs debuted on Broadway in Conversations with My Father, which helped pave the way for him to participate in the daytime soap opera, As the World Turns. He was nominated for the award of Best Younger Actor at the daytime Emmy Awards for his role.

Biggs attended New York University briefly from 1996–1997, but soon afterwards, he returned to pursue his acting. And so he would be seen again in another short lived television series, 1997′s Camp Stories. He then starred in American Pie, which went on to become an international hit that has spawned three sequels (also starring Biggs) and four spinoffs (that did not star Biggs).

And, the rest is Hollywood history.

Crooked Arrows, the first mainstream film featuring the sport lacrosse, is an adrenaline pumping, underdog story of overcoming the odds.

Brandon Routh stars as Joe Logan, a mixed-blood Native American, who has strayed from the core values of his native people. His plan to expand the reservation’s casino is met with a challenge from his traditionalist father, who requires he reconnect with his indigenous spirit before they will grant him access to this land.  He is tasked with coaching the reservation’s high school lacrosse team, a rag tag team with a flagging enthusiasm for the game, who must compete against the better equipped and better trained players of the elite Prep School League.

Directed by Steve Rash (American Pie Presents Band Camp), Crooked Arrows stars Brandon Routh (Superman Returns) and Gil Birmingham (Twilight).  The film was produced by J. Todd Harris (The Kids Are All Right), Mitchell Peck (Priest), and Adam Leff (The Last Action Hero).  In addition, the movie features top lacrosse players from around the country, including a team of Iroquois players as well as professionals such as Paul Rabil, Zack Greer and Brodie Merrill who make cameo appearances, along with other notable lacrosse coaches.  The lacrosse action was orchestrated by Sports Studio (Miracle, Game Plan).
