Jersey Shore – 27th NPS All-Women Lifeguard Tournament at Sandy Hook

There are a lot of misconceptions about the Jersey Shore, from the MTV show to various articles I have read. The Jersey Shore has many different faces and personalities. Here is one of them, from a beach that doesn’t get a lot of attention, Sandy Hook.

When you think of lifeguards, maybe you think of California or Florida. But how about New Jersey? Since 1985, The National Park Service has been holding the All-Women Lifeguard Tournament in Sandy Hook, part of the Gateway National Recreation Area. Here are some photos from this year’s tournament.

Vans Warped Tour – Gym Class Heroes & More – Oceanport NJ – July 24 2011 – Review & Photo Gallery

Warped Tour came to New Jersey’s Monmouth Raceway on July 24th 2011. It consists of a variety of bands, both large and small. It was a hot day, but slightly cooler than the 100+ temps we had been having.  Warped Tour had solutions to the heat, however. They prepared a station where you could keep filling up your water bottle with free water all day, misting tents you could stand under to get a gentle spray of cool water, and various people used water guns to randomly spray into the crowds. All of the outdoor concert necessities were available for sale : suntan lotion, programs, ear plugs, batteries and more. If you forgot anything you could just pick it up there. Parking was reasonable at $5.00. I have been to concerts where they have charged a lot more. There were plenty of bathrooms so unlike the last large scale concert I went to, there was no long wait on to use a bathroom. These are nice touches and show that the people in charge know what they are doing and have thought things through and are treating the attendees with respect.

Television Review – Storage Wars – Season Premiere July 20 2011 @ 10 PM A&E

I am not a big fan of Reality TV but I really love the show Storage Wars. The show is about people who go around buying abandoned Storage Lockers for profit or personal enjoyment. When the auctioneer opens the storage unit, people get to look from the ouside but they cannot go in. This makes it a gamble as they really don’t know what is in the boxes or anything that they can’t see. They have to base their bidding on what they can see and the impression that the locker gives them as to the profession, personality etc of the person who owned the storage unit.
The show works really well for a couple of reasons.

Things to do in Jersey – Main Street In Motion Special Driving Event – July 29 30 31 2011

After attending the Cadillac Culinary Challenge event, GM sent me an invitation to another driving event, this time involving their other brands vs. the competition. If it is like the last driving event they held, I can vouch for it. It is a fun, relaxed atmosphere and no one is trying to sell you a car. Of course, if you are interested or want to request information on new cars, they will let you know how to do it. You take a quick survey to be registered and anyone who wants to participate in the test driving has to be 18 years old and have their license with them. This event is open to anyone but it is better is you register first.
