El Mexicano, Clifton – Review

Located on Main Avenue in Clifton, El Mexicano Restaurant is a beacon of light in the slim pickings of non-chain Mexican restaurants in New Jersey.

Fantastic margaritas, specially priced on Tuesdays, are the highlight of the drink menu.  They have regularly changing special fruit flavors that are always new and interesting.

The black bean soup is a delicious way to start off a meal.

Enchiladas Verdes will make you wish you could order a second whole plate if you like the tart green tomatillos.

Grilled fish tacos, any of the fajita combinations and the grilled flank steak have all been sampled by us and gotten the thumbs up.

On the down side, you won’t get huge portions and parking is a little spotty.

But, if you’re in the mood for better Mexican than Chevy’s or On The Border, head on over to Clifton for El Mexicano.
