Farmers Markets Start to Open Across New Jersey

Saturday marked the opening of many farmers markets in Jersey and we attended the Montclair Farmers Market at the Walnut Street Train Station.

Since most of the vegetables that are available right now are hot house lettuces and tomatoes, we focused on the ready made foods that were available and had quite a feast!

We checked out the hand-made kielbasa and pierogies from Stefan and Sons Meat Store based in Clifton.  The kielbasa was garlicky and delicious after sauteing lightly in some olive oil.  The potato and cheese pierogies were crispy on the outside and moist on the inside when pan-fried in butter and onions.

We picked up some fresh asparagus from Vacchiano Farms stand and fresh sourdough spelt bread from Montclair Bread Company to round out the meal.

THE best apple cider doughnuts came from Tree-licious Orchards for dessert.

Check in each week to see what we’ve picked up at New Jersey’s freshest farmers markets!
