Barcade, Jersey City – Review

We’d heard of Barcade in Brooklyn so when we heard that one was opening in Jersey City that really excited us! A bar, a kitchen and vintage video games.  Perfect weekend day combo!

We headed over on a Sunday afternoon and nearly had the place to ourselves for a little while but it slowly filled up by the time we left.

We tried a few things off their menu:

The Pressed Ham and Ementhaler with Rosemary Mustard was good but nothing to write home about.

Next up was the Pressed Pastrami & Cheddar with Dressed Sauerkraut which was very good.  The mustard was served on the side and was nice and spicy.

We tried the Death PB&J which could have used some more PB&J. The heat was nice but the lack of a thick slab of peanut butter and jelly left the sandwich pretty dry.

The meat and cheese platter was really good. They change the meats and cheese around so you won’t get exactly what we got in the picture below.  But, it’s all high quality and interesting meats and cheeses so I still recommend it if you just want something to nibble on.

We tried a few different beers on tap. They specialize in having fresh local and artisanal brews.  We had a few from the New Jersey Brewing Company (which you’ve got to try!) and a few others.  Like some of the food choices, Barcade likes to have fresh seasonal items on tap so we could tell you exactly what we had but you probably won’t get the same selection when you go so let’s just say if you like microbrews and want to support local companies, go to Barcade!

But, let’s be totally honest…  we were really there for the vintage arcade games.  We played lots of them and got some cool video of a few of them which we’ll upload soon.

All in all, Barcade is a great place to hang out and try some cool food and drink and play some video games from your childhood.

Here’s a gallery of all our photos from that day. See if you can identify all the video games!

Barcade is at 163 Newark Avenue in Jersey City.
