On this date back in 1804, Vice President Aaron Burr laid the smack down on Founding Father and Secretary of the Treasury Alexander Hamilton when he shot him in the famous duel at Weehawkin overlooking the Hudson River. The two men apparently hated each other and when Hamilton smeared Burr in the press that was it. The men came across the Hudson in separate boats. New York had much tougher laws against dueling so they decided to make the trip over to New Jersey.
Burr slipped into obscurity but Hamilton, despite being the duel’s big loser, made it onto the sawbuck.
