Each week, we get half of a share of organic veggies from a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) group based in Westfield. And, each week, we’re going to show you what we got. It’s our way of showing you what New Jersey farmers are up to and what you should be able to find at your local farmers’ market this week.
This week our CSA share included Napa cabbage, broccoli, green leaf lettuce, radicchio, an daikon radish, some dill and an English cucumber.
Never tried daikon radish? Pickle them with cucumbers and carrots using the recipe below [via cooks.com]:
|JAPANESE STYLE SOUR PICKLES|
7 oz. water
1 1/3 tsp. soy sauce
1/4 oz. katsuobushi (dried bonito)
5 oz. daikon radish
2 2/3 tbsp. vinegar
1 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. sugar
Combine vinegar, water, salt, sugar and soy sauce. Add katsuobushi and sliced ginger and stir slowly until sugar is dissolved. Cut cucumber, daikon and carrot into strips. Put vegetables in a jar and pour the mixture over them.
