Just Plain Dave’s, Clark – Review

A lot of times, we find ourselves driving on the Parkway and looking for a place to eat a quick lunch or dinner.  We found just the place this week. Just a mile from the Clark exit, #135, Just Plain Dave’s looks like you’re in for just a greasy spoon menu but you’d be wrong with that assumption.  Everything tasted homemade and fresh.  We’re adding this to our regular rotation in Parkway eating!

We tried two appetizers and the Mini Chicken Tacos were good but kind of standard mini tacos served with sour cream. The Mesquite Quesadilla Rolls were REALLY good with smoked chicken served with ranch sauce. They were super crispy and spicy inside.

We also got the Loaded Fries which were an amazing basket of potato heaven with cheddar and jack cheeses along with crumbled bacon.  How can you go wrong with that? Big boardwalk-type fries with real melted cheese, not cheese sauce.  And, of course, bacon!

For our entrees, we tried the cheesesteak which was nice and classic—chopped steak with melted cheese on a nice chewy roll.  There were many other cheesesteak options like chicken cheesesteaks, spicy steak and a Newark-style sandwich with onions, peppers and potatoes.

We also tried the pulled pork sandwich which tasted so homemade that I swore I could taste the barbeque.  Wow, was that a good pork! The sauce was nice and sweet and the pork had lots of crispy little pieces left from the barbequing.  The roll was nice and fresh, too!  Great, great sandwich.

The last thing we had was a create-your-own burger with BBQ sauce and Taylor ham.  Nice!  The meat was flavorful and cooked just right and the bun was nice and hearty to soak up most of the juicyness. Other options in the create-your-own menu that we want to try on another visit:  sauteed mushrooms, guacamole, bleu cheese and salsa.  Other signature burgers that we want to try are the Biggie and Bleu burger with bleu cheese and onion rings (wow!) and the New Yorker burger that comes with corned beef or pastrami and swiss on grilled rye (double wow!!).

We really enjoyed our meal at Just Plain Dave’s!  The staff was extremely friendly and very attentive.  The food was great and you can’t beat the location just off the Parkway. There are so many more items that we want to try on the menu that we might write a whole second menu just for their breakfast menu.  We just need to find a reason to be heading down the Parkway some morning.
