Reservoir Tavern, Boonton – Review

We love when a family-owned restaurant is so good that it’s packed on a Wednesday night and that’s what we found at the Bevacqua’s Reservoir Tavern. They have call ahead seating, though, so you don’t have to wait with everyone else.  Rest assured, though, it’s worth the wait even if you forget to call ahead.

Yes, the pizza is as amazing as it looks in this picture.  Nice thin crust with some chewiness left in the thicker parts.  Lots of delicious and herby tomato sauce.  Excellent quality toppings that could easily be found in an entree and not just an afterthought on a pizza.  This has got to be one of the top pizzas in the state!

We got one pie with pepperoni and one with sausage.  Both were equally good and would have been a great meal by themselves.  But, of course, we tried a few more things. See what else after the More link:

We also tried the calamari which gave us a little preview of how good the marinara was here. The calamari itself was golden brown outside and soft and salty on the inside.  The sauce, though, was the highlight.  I used the garlic bread that came with it to soak up more of the sauce because it was so good.  I knew that the pizza already had a good grade for sauce flavor when I tasted the dipping sauce.

We also got some Toasties which are the Reservoir Tavern’s famous toasted meatballs.

You can see from the picture how crunchy they were on the outside and you’ll have to trust us when we tell you how beefy and well-seasoned they were on the inside.  You can kind of see the seasonings in the meatball that is already broken open on the right.  These meatballs in a sandwich or with pasta would be amazing.  Even on their own, like we got them, they were worth talking about.

Someday soon we’ll have to head back to try more of their entrees.  Now that we’ve been here for pizza, we’ve heard how great their entrees are, too.  You can only try so many things at one meal so another trip to Boonton is in order.  And, soon!
