New Brunswick, NJ —State Theatre presents dance troupe MOMIX in reMIX on Friday, April 20, 2012 at 8pm. MOMIX reMIX is a surreal journey through the unique universe of MOMIX movement featuring the most striking images from over 25 years of work. Tickets range from $32-52.
Since the early 80’s audiences have watched as choreographer/director Moses Pendleton has transformed dancers in his company of dancer-illusionists, MOMIX, into sidewinders and Gila monsters, floated them weightlessly through extraterrestrial terrains, strapped them into snow skis, or hurled them through the air like baseballs. Now in one evening they present MOMIX reMIX. This world-renowned company of uncannily athletic dancers presents a collection of figments of the imagination of Moses Pendleton that are unpredictable, sometimes bizarre and notoriously out of this world.
Program includes Solar Flares, Tuu, Marigolds, Pole Dance, Baths of Caracalla, Sputnik (“Fellow Traveler”), E.C., Geese, Dream Catcher, Table Talk, Moon Beams, Aqua Flora, and If You Need Some Body.
For over 25 years, MOMIX has been celebrated for its ability to conjure up a world of surrealistic images using props, light, shadow, humor and the human body. In addition to stage performances world-wide, the company has frequently worked on special projects, in film and in television, and was most recently seen in the premiere of a commercial for Target aired during the Golden Globes® award ceremony in January 2010. They have also appeared in a national commercial for Hanes underwear. MOMIX has made five Italian RAI television features broadcast to 55 countries (including the USSR and China) and has performed on Antenne II in France. MOMIX was also featured in PBS’s Dance in America series.
Dancers for MOMIX include Todd Burnsed, David Dillow, Jon Eden, Nicole Loizides, Steven Marshall, Anila Mazhari, Danielle Mcfall, Rebecca Rasmussen, Cara Seymour, And Brian Simerson,
Artistic Director Moses Pendleton
The company’s founder, artistic director, and choreographer, Moses Pendleton, has worked with numerous acrobatics acts, films, television productions, and dance companies world-wide. A former Guggenheim fellow, Pendleton started MOMIX following his solo performance, Momix, at the closing ceremonies of the 1980 Olympic Games in Lake Placid. Prior to MOMIX, Pendleton co-founded the ground-breaking dance group Pilobolus while a senior at Dartmouth College in 1971.
This performance is underwritten by Andy Chen and Heidi Mass.
