White Rose System, Highland Park – Review

In case you don’t know by now, here at You Don’t Know Jersey we love National Burger Month.  We asked readers for some of their favorite places.  A few people recommended White Rose System in Highland Park and we are glad they did.

We’ve been to many of the “White” burger places and this is among the best.  Looking at the place it is similar to the other joints in that from the outside it looks like a regular roadside stand.  Inside is what you would expect; small counter area with menu behind.  It was a two man operation this evening.  One guy taking the order and getting the drinks and one cook preparing the food.    Both were dressed in the classic white shirts and paper hats.  A nice touch.  No booths.  Just stools and counter top along the window.

The first thing that struck us about the burgers is their resemblance to White Castle.  However, imagine if there was a food version of Miracle-Gro and they used it on the White Castle slider.   The burger is really juicy and tastes great.  It has a nice steamed flavor.  Is has a unique taste that we enjoyed more than some other “White” burger places.  It is served on a nice bakery-style roll.  Slightly crunchy outside and doughy inside.  Do you like onions?  Look at the picture above.  That is an amazing amount of grilled onions.  We also tried the cheeseburger and the Cali Cheeseburger which has lettuce, tomato and mayonnaise.

The fries were pretty much perfect.  Served the way they should be, crispy on the outside and substantial on the inside.  We didn’t think the large order looked that large but in the end we had trouble finishing it.

All in all this is a great place for a quick burger.  No frills, excellent food.  We can see making this our go-to burger in this area.
