We’re about ready to wrap up the Fourth Annual Hot Dog Tour here at YDKJ.  You would think after all these hog dog joints we’d be getting tired of trying new places.  You’d be wrong.  Today we headed into Rutgers territory to visit Tido N His Junkyard Dogs in New Brunswick.  Now the “grease trucks” get all the foodie attention here but we drove right past them and turned the corner on our way to Tido’s.

Tido uses Sabrett dogs but you can substitute Tido’s Beef and Turkey dogs, turkey dogs or Tofu Pups for anything on their menu.  You can already tell they’re by a college, right?  I can’t think of any other hot dog joints that have vegan alternatives for hot dogs on their menu.  Pretty cool!

They also note that you can get any dog on the menu deep-fried, grilled or boiled so they got you covered on how you like your dog cooked.

We got two deep-fried Sabretts.  The first was the Reuben Dog with sauerkraut and Russian dressing.  We’ve never seen this combination on a hot dog before.   The other was the standard chili dog.  They were both flavorful with that Sabrett snap.  The chili, while tasty, could have used a little extra heat.

I’m a huge corn dog fan so I couldn’t help but try Tido’s.  It was super crispy and good. And, it came with those new ketchup packets that enable you to dip your fries or corn dog while on the go.  It’s the little things that count.

It’s a small space.  There are three stools but eating inside would be a bit cramped.  I imagine most students grab their food and head back to their dorms.  There are a few tables outside.

We can’t wait to head back to Tido’s to check out more of those specialty dogs!
