A Blue Moon occurs when 2 Full Moons fall in the same calendar month. Don’t expect it to be blue though. As you can see, this one had a distinctly orange tint as a result of the weather and the atmosphere. Here are some shots of it taken from Eagle Rock Reservation.

The Moon rises to the left of Manhattan. You can see the Empire State Building in red, white and blue and the Freedom Tower is the tall structure on the right.

This blue moon had an orange glow that went away as it got higher in the sky.

Eagle Rock has a couple monuments and statues dedicated to the victims of 9/11. Here is one of them involving pieces of the original building. You can see the Blue Moon in the background to the right of the lamppost.
