Help Build Up Island Beach State Park’s Dunes With Your Old Christmas Tree

The Facebook page for New Jersey State Parks, Forests & Historic Sites has put out a call for your old natural Christmas trees.  They are starting a pilot program to see if they can build up the dunes in Island Beach State Park using the donated trees.  What a great and “green” way to allow anyone who buys a real tree every year to help Restore the Shore!

The pilot program will assess the effectiveness and feasibility of further use in the future. According to the Facebook post, the trees will be placed on their side, end to end and secured in place in a manner similar to dune fencing.

Since Island Beach State Park is officially closed due to hurricane damage, don’t try to drop off your trees there.  Instead, they ask that you drop off your Christmas tree at Cattus Island County Park from now until January 13th at any time between dawn and dusk. Upon entering the park, follow the signs to the drop off area near their Maintenance road. Any questions can be answered by calling the park’s temporary phone, 732-270-2703, between 8:30am – 4:30pm.
