Just a short while ago, the Seaside Heights Boardwalk was still missing in action due to the destruction left in the wake of Hurricane Sandy last October. We took a ride down on Friday to see how the rebuilding was coming along and were thrilled to see that much progress has been made.
Currently there is no railing or division between the boardwalk and beach and it is not clear whether there will be one by the time the summer season begins.
Much of the boardwalk is complete and scattered businesses were open in those stretches. Other areas were blocked off as dedicated workers continue to finish the entire length before Memorial Day. It was inspiring to see this much completed already and we have little doubt that they will reach their goal. Jersey Strong in action!
Scores of construction workers and equipment were working hard to lay down the rest of the panels to complete the boardwalk.
The roller coaster, an image which has become iconic, has not yet been removed from the ocean. Most likely it will be removed soon as the beach will be open to the public by Memorial Day.
The north end of the boardwalk is the unfinished part. The pylons and support beams are in place for the most part but the planks still need to be set into place.
In addition to the new boardwalk, the road behind the boardwalk is being repaved.
The progress we saw on this day and the commitment by the workers was truly inspiring. There is still lots of work to do but we are confident that it will get done.
