As many football fans in this area know, Super Bowl XLVIII is going to be played at MetLife Stadium in the Meadowlands in East Rutherford on February 2nd 2014. This will be the first outdoor Super Bowl in a cold weather climate. Reactions have been mixed. You will hear opinions from “Is the NFL crazy?” to “Good! Football is a game to be played in the elements.” Of course there are those that are hoping for the worst. More than once I have heard, “I hope there is a blizzard on that day. That will teach the NFL a lesson!”
These folks might just get what they are hoping for. The 2014 Farmers’ Almanac came out today and predicts a bitterly cold winter. “We’re using a very strong four-letter word to describe this winter, which is C-O-L-D. It’s going to be very cold,” said Sandi Duncan, managing editor. The publication, now in its 197th year, also predicts a possible huge storm, you guessed it, Super Bowl weekend. “It really looks like the Super Bowl may be the Storm Bowl.” Duncan says.
So if you are lucky enough to snag tickets for the event you better bundle up and keep a shovel and salt in your trunk. Me? I’ll be watching from my couch.
