NFL Week 4 – Jets Giants Eagles – Results

What can we really say about the Giants? It was the same old story this week. This time they never got off the plane in Kansas City and lost 31-7. People are already calling for Tom Coughlin and Eli Manning’s heads on a platter even though they have taken them to two Super Bowl wins in six years. At least Justin Tuck came to their defense saying that he would punch any player in the mouth who turns on coach Coughlin. It’s amazing how Giants fans think like Yankee fans. They are ready to jump off the bridge as panic sets in so quickly. They’ve got to talk to the poor Jets and Mets fans so they can realize that they are not going to win the Super Bowl every year. I get it, the Superbowl is here this year in New Jersey/New York at Metlife Stadium but barring a miracle, neither the Giants nor Jets will be the home team. Is there any light at the end of the tunnel for the Giants? The Cowboys lost so they’re 2-2. The Redskins won and are 1-3. The Eagles are 1-3 and the Giants 0-4. It would be scary to see a team win this division with a 7-9 or worse record!

The New York Jets faired no better. Quarterback Geno Smith looked like a deer in the headlights as the Jets lost 38-13. He had 5 turnovers as the game got too big for him. This is typical rookie behavior in a nutshell. They have their good moments and they have their bad ones. Coach Rex Ryan said that if Geno keeps making the same mistakes, he may take away some of his game time to give him some time to think about his play. The Jets will really have their work cut out for them now as both wide receivers were injured and their schedule gets stiffer over the next few weeks. The problem that needs to be addressed is penalties. They need to get their discipline back. The new strategy the coach announced is that everyone in the Jets organization including secretaries, staff, ball boys, laundry people, equipment managers and even the owner must do 10 pushups for every penalty the Jets incur. Now there is something I’d like to see!

The Chip Kelly experiment is looking like a broken record with a bad tune as the Eagles lost to the Denver Broncos 52-20. This fan’s patience is wearing thin. I know its only been a few games but they can’t stop anybody and I’m not liking what I see. The defense is a putrid, dreadful mess and no adjustments or corrections are being made. Its the same garbage every week and there has been no improvement at all. This is the big boy league. This is not Oregon, it’s not the NCAA, it’s not college anymore. You have to stop the other team from scoring and if you don’t do that then guess what, you’re going to be in the NFL for a very, very short period of time. Faster than lightning, you’ll be back to college.
