It was a sad day in our household when we heard that Chase, the Trenton Thunder’s first Bat Dog, had died last July. We are now thrilled to report the birth of the Thunder’s third generation of bat dog!
Chase’s son, Derby, met a lady golden retriever, Reba (pictured above with her litter and owners), at last year’s Bark the Park day when fans are invited to bring their own dogs to the game. The two dogs got along so well that their owners decided to breed the two dogs. Reba had two puppies—a boy and a girl—and the boy will be trained to join Derby in 2015. The newest Bat Dog is on the left.
Derby hasn’t met the puppies yet but he will as soon as the puppies are ready. Once the male puppy is old enough to begin training, he’ll head off to Shelly’s School for Dogs in Millstone, where Derby and Chase both trained, for a year and a half of training.
The most exciting news, though, is that fans are being asked to help name the puppy! Click this link or find the link in the TrentonThunder.com article below to submit your puppy names now. On January 17th, the team will choose the top names and put those names out for a vote.
What are your name submissions going to be?
