The Wheaton Arts and Cultural Center in Millville went to the dogs last Sunday.

The event was Paws For Art and it was a free day to come see everything going on at the Arts Center as well as raise money for Cumberland County SPCA. Events included a Wheaton BARKS Dog Show; Wag ‘n’ Walk on the grounds for prizes; pet themed kid’s activities; animal themed glass-making demonstrations; pet supplies, toys and treats for sale; an agility course; animal awareness organization booths; adoptable pets; and, dog caricatures and portraits.

We attended the first glass-blowing demonstration of the day where they made a dog goblet and water bowl.

Here’s the bowl being blown into shape by the artist.

The dog’s name is being written on the bowl here.

Even the doggies were allowed to watch and were impressed with the demonstration.

These are some of the objects they were making.

These artists were making the dog-shaped goblets.

You know the heat is going to be hot but actually feeling it and seeing it is another story!

It was interesting to see that the tools they used weren’t very modern looking.  Glassmaking hasn’t changed much in the last hundred years.

The Glass Studio had lots of neat equipment to look at as we toured through the building.

And, some gorgeous displays of work.

The Ceramics and Flameworking Studio also had artists working and talking to us as we walked through.

These dogs didn’t seem too excited about the metal-work this artist was doing.

Dogs were dressed up for the Dog Show later in the day.

Lots of dogs were in attendance and many were waiting in line to try the agility course!

This little pup was surprisingly agile jumping over bars and weaving through the poles!

There was a raffle and donations could be made to the Cumberland County SPCA.

There were even turkeys to pet!

And, a pig.

And, a horse.

And, a bunny!

We had a great time at Wheaton Arts and Cultural Center’s Paws for Art Day.  If you’re near Millville and looking for something to do, you should definitely check out their many exhibits and especially their museum.

Stay tuned for a separate article all about their amazing museum exhibits!
