New Brunswick band Screaming Females played Asbury Lanes Saturday night, sharing the opening slot for The Julie Ruin with Brooklyn band Shellshag. They absolutely blew us away.
It was our first chance catching them live and the all out, full throttle energy from first song until last was palpable. Guitarist/Vocalist Marissa Paternoster is an amazing singer frequently wailing her lyrics. To say that Marissa is a ferocious shredder on the guitar is an understatement. She is, simply, a rock goddess. Bassist King Mike and drummer Jarrett Dougherty are a powerful rhythm section. Screaming Females are a must-see NJ band.
The band just released their first live album April 8th on Don Giovanni Records. Recorded over two nights in Chicago, Live at the Hideout was recorded and produced by Steve Albini and is available on iTunes.
