Big E’s Burger Joint, South Amboy [CLOSED] – Review

UPDATE: Sadly, Big E’s Burger Joint has gone on to the big burger joint in the sky and closed down operations. Keep reading if you want to see the tremendous food we had there.

It’s National Burger Month so you can probably already guess what the food reviews will look like this month!

Recently, we checked out Big E’s Burger Joint in South Amboy. This burger haven has a great menu and a great staff! Up above you can see the regular burger that we tried first. Everything comes on homemade buns which are really light and fluffy. They’re also big enough to keep all the juice in the sandwich and not drip all over. This was a great start to a delicious lunch!

The Chili Burger came with roasted poblano peppers, tons of homemade chili, cheddar cheese, red onion, and chipotle aioli. This burger was huge and it had huge taste! The chili alone was so flavorful that the burger would be delicious with that as the only topping! You get a good look at the homemade buns in the picture above.

It came with these really big fries, cole slaw and a nice big pickle spear.

Beer battered onion rings were giant and had lots of beer taste. Nicely done, Big E’s!

The ultimate burger here, though, is the Southern Style Biscuit and Gravy Burger. Noted on the menu as the owner’s favorite, this is a monster burger! It comes a made-from-scratch buttermilk biscuit with so much Southern-style cream pepper gravy that you could barely see the burger! There was also bacon and sausage. It’s just crazy good.

Of course, we had to try a hot dog, too. This is the southern fried hot dog. Split down the middle and dipped in southern fried chicken batter, this is a mouthful when topped with Memphis BBQ sauce and chopped raw onions. Very cool idea!

Big E’s Burger Joint is in South Amboy which is not an area of New Jersey we get to very often but we had a really nice day walking the downtown and enjoying burgers. Go check it out yourself for National Burger Month!
