The Front Bottoms are basically the Hardest Working Band in New Jersey. Ever since we’ve known them they have seemed to be non-stop in their musical pursuit of having a great time and making sure their fans enjoy the experience as well. Constantly touring behind their amazing second Bar/None release, Talon of the Hawk, the band recently returned from Europe touring with Brand New. Not ones to rest they went to working on a new recording.

The band has a new EP coming out on June 17 on Bar/None Records called Rose, named after drummer Mathew Uychich’s grandmother. The record will have 6 previously unreleased fan favorites re-recorded by the band. If you’ve seen the band live you know the older songs always get a big reception. “These are the songs that people ask for when we’re on tour,” says vocalist/guitarist Brian Sella Songs like “Flying Model Rockets,” “Lipstick Covered Magnet” and “Twelve Feet Deep” are huge crowd-pleasers and it will be interesting to see what new arrangements the band comes up with for the songs.

The album will be the first in a series of EPs named after the band’s grandmothers to be released in the future.

Back to being The Band That Never Sleeps. The Front Bottoms will be hitting the road with Say Anything, You Blew It! and The So So Glos starting on June 13th in Dallas. They will stop home in New Jersey when the tour hits Starland Ballroom in Sayreville on June 27th. This promises be an awesome show.

Mat took some time to answer a few question about what the band has been up to.

You just got back from a Europe/UK tour with Brand New. How was it?

The tour with Brand New and Saves the Day was one of our favorite UK/Europe tours. Everyone had a great time with each other and plenty of craziness.

You also had some international dates with The Presidents of the United States of America earlier this year. Those must have been some wild shows?

It was pretty awesome playing on the same stage every night for two weeks with those dudes. That band has jams, and it was one of the first CDs I owned. They brought a different audience than we usually play in front of which made it interesting.

Did you flee the country under the guise of European tours because you killed Kevin Devine, Chris Gethard and Sal Vulcano? That seemed like one of the most fun video shoots you’ve done.

We miss them.

Last year, you introduced older songs into your sets. Do the songs come back to you easily or do you need to do a lot of rehearsing to dust the cobwebs off?

Some of them we can just get up and play but most of the older songs it’s been a long time since we played them.

You recently asked your Facebook fans about recording some of your old songs and got nearly a thousand replies. Did you go through them all and which were the top requests?

We were amazed by the reaction of that Facebook post! And we did go through them and note the top requests.

What really happened to the trumpet before the Pensacola show?

The show the night before ended with 40 people on stage destroying all our equipment. Someone during the madness stomped on one of the trumpet valves, which we didn’t notice until load-in the next day.

You had a few weeks off the road. What do The Front Bottoms do with their time off?

Well, that time has passed very quickly. We are leaving in a couple days to start tour with Say Anything, So So Glos, and You Blew It. We spent the last three weeks celebrating our birthdays, recording the Rose EP, catching up with family and friends, we went camping and I cut my hair.

You’re playing the Starland Ballroom on June 27th. Have you seen the newly-renovated space now that they’re open again and are you excited to play there?

We got to play Starland in December with Brand New and since that show we have been excited to be back.

Will you be showing Say Anything a good time in New Jersey?

We will show them a good time in every state they bring us to.

Any new material we should be getting excited about?

YES! We are releasing ROSE on June 17th. Six of the old songs (some are the top requested off that Facebook post) that we have given new life and re-recorded them properly.

You can pre-order Rose here.
