This week is supposed to be “Be Nice to New Jersey Week.” A week dreamed up by Lone Star Publications of Humor from San Antonio, Texas according to an old New York Times article. Some internet searching doesn’t find much other information about this Lone Star Publications so they’ve either folded, purposely maintained a quiet web presence or never existed in the first place.
Regardless, the “Be Nice” week has been getting some press online and on Twitter so maybe it’s here to stay. Our position on it in 2011 was that they can keep their Being Nice. And, it’s still our position.
If people really need a reason to be nice, then they should just keep to themselves. Making fun of New Jersey is as hackneyed as “gag me with a spoon” and “NOT” retorts. New Jersey is one of those places that you just have to live in to understand how awesome it is.
And we wouldn’t have it any other way.
