Every July is National Ice Cream Month. The designation originated with Joint resolution 298, sponsored by Senator Walter Dee Huddleston of Kentucky on May 17, 1984. The resolution proclaimed the month of July 1984 as “National Ice Cream Month.” It was signed into law by President Ronald Reagan on July 9, 1984 with Presidential Proclamation 5219.
We stopped in at Nasto’s Ice Cream to celebrate with their avocado ice cream.
That’s it on top of this cone. It’s even more creamy than regular ice cream and has a very delicate avocado flavor. The more vivid green on the bottom of this cone is another of their current specials—Key Lime. It was very tart and tasted great after the mild avocado scoop.
Ed tried the Sea Salted Caramel Pretzel ice cream and pronounced it delicious. It’s got chocolate covered pretzels in it so you can’t go wrong!
Nasto’s is celebrating their 75th anniversary this year so you should head over to Newark’s Ironbound section and visit them.
We sampled the third special flavor but didn’t get a picture of it—Sweet Corn. There were lots of kernels of fresh corn in there and it had a really strong corn flavor. Follow them on Facebook to see what special flavors they have.
They have all your favorite flavors, too, along with the specialty flavors.
Everything is made on-site and they provide their products to lots of restaurants around New Jersey.
What are you waiting for? Get out and celebrate National Ice Cream Month before it’s too late!
