The 24 Hours of LeMons event There Goes the Neighborhood was this past weekend at the New Jersey Motorsports Park in Millville and as always it was a great time. Who wouldn’t enjoy an endurance race driven by beat up old cars that cost $500 riding around in the NJ August heat? We came prepared, lesson learned from baking in the sun last August and coming home looking like lobsters. This time we brought sunscreen, chairs and beach umbrellas for the time when we were not walking around covering the event. Oh, and beer. We brought lots of beer.

The field was pretty big, over 120 cars. At least that is how many completed at least one lap before the cars started breaking down. Unless you were the 1992 BMW #131. Then your issue was the car not turning off. No matter what was tried, cutting the battery cables and cutting many wires among others, the car would not shut off. Only when a fire extinguisher was unloaded into the intake does the car go quiet.

There was a car outfitted like the truck in Jurassic Park, the General Lee from the Dukes of Hazzard, a boat and a family mini van(?)! There were even cars with a stuffed gorilla and Grover on top, the characters, oh how to put this, suggestively gyrating in the wind. Obviously this is our kind of people.

I encourage everyone to check out this race whenever it returns to Millville. It is a fantastic time.
