Brick + Mortar returned to Asbury Park after many months of touring for their Hometown Show and family, friends and fans turned out to rock with them. The sold out show at Asbury Lanes was electric. Bassist and vocalist Brandon Asraf and drummer John Tacon looked thrilled to be playing in their hometown again.

The band played an array of songs spanning their entire history, including “Hollow Tune”, their newest release . The night was certainly a family affair. Brandon’s little brother was in attendance and he looked like he was having a great time crowd surfing with his friend. I spotted John’s dad on the side of the stage and asked him if he enjoyed being the star of the show promo video. He gave me a big smile and we chatted a bit. A great, great night.

One of our favorite New Jersey bands, Those Mockingbirds out of Montclair, opened the show. Their latest album Penny the Dreadful is one of the best albums of the year and it is always great to see the band live.

We weren’t familiar with Toms River band Johnny B. Morbid but their energetic set won us over. They have a new album, Fall of the Cicada, coming out in 2015.

After River City Extension’s Simple Gifts show Wednesday and the Brick + Mortar Hometown show last night Thanksgiving weekend in Asbury Park seems to be where everyone wants to be for the holiday. That’s fine with us.

Here are our pics from the show.
