The finals of The Jersey Rock Showcase and Band Search took place last night at the Stone Pony and a winner has been decided. The series of shows that lead to the final, sponsored by WRAT and Yuengling, highlighted some of the great music that we have here in NJ. Up for grabs for the winner were eight weeks of rotation on WRAT, a Gibson J-45 acoustic guitar from Russo Music Center and a ten hour recording session with Lakehouse Recording Studios in Asbury Park. All in all this was an outstanding series that highlights the dedication host Nikki Black, of WRAT’s Jersey Rock program, has for local music.

The three bands in the finals were
Prehistoric Forest,
Those Mockingbirds, and
Paris Under Fire. All the bands put on awesome, energetic sets so I imagine the voting was really close. Prehistoric Forest played first and frontman Vince Mathews always puts on an amazing (and acrobatic) show. He could have won a prize just for the moves he was making between vocal sections.
Those Mockingbirds went on second. Their mix of hard rocking and moodier songs reminded us of why we love this band so much.
Paris Under Fire closed out the Showcase with their energetic set. Frontwoman Tessah Melamed’s vocals and stage presence almost outdid Prehistoric Forest’s Vince.
In the end Those Mockingbirds took the prize guitar, recording sessions and WRAT rotation! Votes came in over the WRAT website and throughout the evening’s showcase.
The best part was that ticket sales for this event benefited the music program in the Asbury Park school district!
