Movie Review – The Loft

I like to know as little as possible when going to see a movie and The Loft is no exception. As it turns out I knew almost nothing about this film except that it had Karl Urban and Cyclops’ James Marsden and that a mysterious dead body is found. The dark concept of finding a dead body seemed like it could make a good movie.

I did notice that it had a very low rating on rotten tomatoes so I prepared myself for the worst but as it turned out I was pleasantly surprised. The movie isn’t perfect and has its flaws but overall it was entertaining and is not afraid of tackling its subject matter. That alone makes it a very unique film.

Karl Urban, James Marsden, Wentworth Miller, Eric Stonestreet, Matthias Schoenaerts, Rachael Taylor and Isabel Lucas all do a fine job with their roles. The cinematography and lighting is terrific. Most importantly the twists and turns of the unfolding mystery aren’t unbelievable and that was the most difficult challenge for this type of movie.

Smart, entertaining, beautiful to look at and well acted, this is a film you should check out without knowing anything the plot. Yes, there are some undeveloped areas of the story but overall it is pretty good.
